The Arabic style still, a relic of ancient devices, is mainly used for distilling alcohol and extracting essences and essential oils. Arab alchemists developed stills to purify chemicals and create medicines, perfumes, and other chemicals.
The Arabic style still design typically includes a distillation pot where the raw material is heated and a container for collecting the distillate, often with a cooler or condenser attached. The transfer of vapor from the heated material to the cooler is generally done through a tube known as a "swan neck", due to its characteristic curved shape, which is one of the signatures of this still design.
Although the basic principles of distillation remain the same, Arabic style stills have been adapted and modernized over the centuries. In the contemporary context, they are used to:

Contemporary Arabian style stills can vary in size and complexity, from simple distillation pots to more elaborate systems with multiple columns and advanced condensers. Regardless of scale, the operating principle of these stills continues to be influenced by the legacy of their Arab precursors, demonstrating the lasting influence of Arab culture on the science of distillation.
